Forever Farm
We recognize the value and difficulty in farming and ranching in today’s landscape. Through our Farm Aid program, we have partnered with the Bear Yuba Land Trust, Briar Patch Food Co-Op, and Sierra Harvest on the Forever Farm Project to keep farm land in agricultural hands.
The Forever Farm Project is built around the permanent purchase of agricultural land to maintain long-term land security for farmers. Our initial collaborative campaign raised over $500,000 to save Mountain Bounty Farm, made up of 37 acres near Nevada City, that provides long-term, affordable access to organic farmland for local growers.
The Forever Farm Project has since purchased additional agricultural easements and preserves to act as Forever Farms. These Forever Farms act as educational farms for aspiring local growers and local schools, housing co-ops, and nature preserves for native oak and chaparral habitat. The collaborative relies on its advisory board to assess potential land purchases to continue towards our goal of sustainable agriculture in the Northern Sierra.
