“Tahoe Food Hub delivers 150 Giving Boxes to school district”

During the past year, the Tahoe Food Hub has partnered with Tahoe Truckee Unified School District’s Food & Nutrition Services team to provide Giving Boxes to local, school families in need.

As the school year winds down, Tahoe Food Hub on Thursday and Friday of last week provided an additional 150 Giving Boxes to the school district, ensuring fresh fruits and vegetables to each of family in the food pantry program.

“Nourish Thy Neighbor”

The folks at Tahoe Food Hub knew there were families facing food insecurity in our area, but they never realized to just what extent — until the COVID-19 pandemic hit. Enter the Giving Box program. Since April 1, they have delivered more than 3,500 boxes of fresh produce to residents in need, an effort made possible solely through the generosity of the community with $70,000 in donations to the Food Hub’s Feed Your Neighbor program.

These days, I’m eating better than I did before Coronavirus, thanks to the Tahoe Food Hub. The Truckee nonprofit is a cornerstone of our local food supply, bringing fresh food from nearby farms to our quarantined kitchens.

“Growing the Local Food Network”

Tahoe Food Hub’s Farm Shop opened its doors last spring at the Truckee Tahoe Airport, tripling the size of the nonprofit’s previous warehouse and creating room for growth in all areas of the organization. Tahoe Food Hub has been bridging the gap between consumer and producer since launching in 2012 with only five farms and restaurants.
